Q: Who is eligible for membership at the MCG Wellness Center?
A: You are eligible for membership if you fall within one of the following categories:
MCG employees including full-time and part-time faculty, staff, housestaff, residents, postdoctoral fellows and their spouses.
MCG clinical and adjunct faculty and their spouses.
Employees of campus affiliates and their spouses such as MCGHI, Physicians Practice Group, Augusta VA Medical Center (both campuses), Augusta State University, Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, Georgia War Veteran's Nursing Home and MCG Foundation, Inc. MCG/MCGHI contract employees, MCG/MCGHI volunteers and ASU students are also eligible to join.
Alumni of MCG or any University of Georgia System institution (upon verification) and their spouses.
Spouses of MCG students with current Wellness Center privileges.
MCG / MCGHI / PPG retirees (upon verification) and their spouses.
Each Wellness Center may sponsor one individual who is not affiliated for membership. Special conditions apply - please contact the front desk for complete details.
Q: Is there a minimum amount of time I must sign up for membership?
A: Yes. A one-month membership option is available for all membership categories.
Q: How do I sign up for membership?
A: Stop by the front desk. Membership applications are also available online. Simply fill out the application, including your payment information, and fax back to us at (706) 721-5063.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: Check, Visa, MasterCard or Discover. You may also authorize payroll deduction if you are a full-time, benefits eligible employee of MCG, MCGHI or PPG.
Q: Who is eligible for payroll deduction?
A: Payroll deduction is available for full time employees of MCG, MCGHI and PPG. Please stop by the front desk for more information.
Q: What about our immediate family?
A: Children (age 6 to 18) are eligible for membership. Upon the purchase of a Family membership, all children may accompany their parents to the Wellness Center during the designated family hours. Children must be directly supervised by their parents at all times. Immediate family members (siblings, parents, etc.) may be sponsored for membership accompanied by a member with the purchase of a guest pass.
Weekend guest passes for children may be purchased on a per visit basis. The all weekend pass is $8.00 and includes all children (ages 6-18).
Children ages 19 and above are considered as adults. They are eligible for membership as a Dependent. Dependent memberships are provided full access and privileges to the facility.
Other family members (siblings, parents, etc) may accompany a member with the purchase of a guest pass.
Q: My program does not have a summer session. Can I use the Wellness Center?
A: Yes. Stop by the front desk and pay the summer student membership fee of $30 and your MCG ID card will be activated for summer. This also applies to co-ops, part-time and cross-enrolled students during fall and spring semesters. Fall 2009 memberships are valid until December 31, 2009.
Q: Can I bring a guest?
A: Absolutely! A member may bring two guests per day. Guest fees are $8 per person per day or $20 for four days. See the guest policy for more information.
Q: Is there a trial membership?
A: No, currently no trial membership is available. For special circumstances, please contact Patsy Donath, Membership Services Coordinator, at (706) 721-5043.
Q: What is the busiest time at the facility?
A: While we experience bursts of usage several times a day, utilization tends to be highest during the hours of 4:30–7:00 pm.
Q: Where can I park when I visit the Wellness Center?
The MCG Wellness Center now has its own parking lot!! It is located on Spelman Street, directly across from the Wellness Center. Parking in this lot is free for Wellness Center patrons, with a time limit of 3 hours. Wellness Center members are asked to sign in their vehicles at the front desk at each visit to the Wellness Center. The lot is monitored hourly by MCG Parking and those cars not signed in at the Wellness Center front desk or that have exceeded the 3 hour time limit will be ticketed $50.
All MCG students or employees who park on the Medical College of Georgia campus are required to use their existing methods of campus parking. Deck 4 on Goss Lane is the nearest parking for individuals with center parking privileges. Lots 1 and 2 on Spelman Street is the nearest parking for individuals with perimeter parking privileges. MCG students and employees who declined parking privileges must use the Visitor Lot 3 in front of the MCG Student Center and pay any required fee. All MCGHI and PPG employees must park in their assigned location.
The visitor lot in front of the Student Center is a pay lot. The first hour is provided free of charge. Each additional hour is $2.00. Lots 1/2 and Deck 4 are open for all members regardless of campus assignment provided that the vehicles are not parked between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. All parking lots are open during weekends.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Suggested clothing is whatever you feel comfortable wearing. The majority of the members chose to wear t-shirt and shorts or sweatpants. Please note - scrubs and jeans are not permitted and appropriate shoes or footwear (no sandals, street shoes or flip flops) must be worn at all times.
Q: Is there someone to help me start a program?
A: Yes. Specialists from the Wellness Center are on staff to help you design and begin an exercise program. The sessions will help you establish individual goals that suit your personal preferences in equipment and exercises. A fee is required for some programs.
Q: Do you offer group exercise classes?
A: All classes on the group exercise schedule are included at no addition cost. Approximately 10 classes are offered per week in various styles of aerobic exercise. Classes listed on the instructional programs schedule require payment of an additional fee.
Q: I am not a member, but have signed up to participate in an intramural event that is being played in the Wellness Center – What are my options?
A: Student spouses (non-members) and MCG faculty, staff and housestaff (non-members) who are participating in an intramural event have the option of buying a guest pass for each visit ($8). You may also join the facility as a member and pay the advertised rate. Stop by the front desk for more information.
