The School of Medicine Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented annually in recognition of exemplary dedication to the advancement of the medical profession, medical community and the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine. Eligible nominees are medical graduates or dental resident graduates from the Medical College of Georgia who are current members of the School of Medicine Alumni Association and who have exhibited the following:

  1. Has made outstanding contributions to medicine.Promotes change in the health care system for the improvement of quality care.Supports and participates in professional and community activities locally, nationally, or internationally.Demonstrates high professional standards and dedication.Provides consultation to colleagues in area of expertise.Contributes to professional publications.Utilizes current research/equipment in practice.
  2. Exhibits outstanding dedication to the advancement of the MCG School of Medicine and furthering the education of its current students.

Nomination Procedure
An Alumni Association member or School of Medicine faculty member nominates an alumnus he/she considers to meet eligibility requirements. The nominating person must submit the following for review:

  1. Cover letter introducing the nominee and explaining the ways the nominee has met the above criteria.
  2. The nomination form.

Selection of Recipient and Previous Winners
The Board of Directors of the SMAA will review all properly completed nominations and base their decision upon such content.
