2003 Distinguished Alumnus Award Recipients

The Alumni Association of the School of Medicine presented its Distinguished Award for Loyalty to Dr. Irving Victor, its Distinguished Award for Professional Achievement to Dr. Norman B. Pursley and a Posthumous Distinguished Alumnus Award in honor of Dr. James “Eddie” Marlow.

Dr. Irving Victor
Dr. Victor, assistant to the president at St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System in Savannah, Ga., earned his medical degree from MCG in 1945 and practiced urology in Savannah from 1951-92. He received the Medical Association of Georgia’s 2001 Raines Award for Humanitarian Service and the Georgia Medical Society’s 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Victor is a fellow of the American College of Georgians and a past president of the Georgia Urological Association and Georgia Medical Society. He is an honorary member of the MCG Rinker Society.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Norman B. Pursley

Dr. Norman B. Pursley
Dr. Pursley, who earned a medical degree from MCG in 1948, was the superintendent of Gracewood State School and Hospital from 1951 until his retirement in 1985. He is a fellow of the American Association on Mental Deficiency and president of the Georgia Public Health Association.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. James “Eddie” Marlow
Dr. Marlow, a 1962 graduate of the School of Medicine, practiced family medicine in Dalton, Ga., and served as a regional alumni chairman for the Dalton region for many years.
