
The School of Dentistry Alumni Association presented its Distinguished Alumnus Award to Dr. Matthew McRae Jr., an Athens, Ga., dentist during the university’s homecoming celebration April 27-30. Dr. McRae has been in private practice since earning his dental degree from MCG in 1973. He devotes many hours providing dentistry to the indigent in northeast Georgia, and co-founded the McRae-Orrington Dental Scholarship at MCG.
Dr. McRae has served as MCG clinical faculty since 1988. He is a board member and membership chair of the Academy of General Dentistry and past president and membership chair of the Georgia Dental Society. He has been on the Advisory Board to the University of Georgia and Board of Directors for the Boys’ and Girls’ Club, Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society, the Clarke County Board of Commissioners and the Athens-Clarke County Board of Education. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and has been appointed to various state health boards by Govs. Zell Miller and Roy Barnes.
