Purchasing Card System (P-Card)

With the elimination of the requirement for competitive bidding on purchases of supplies, materials, and equipment under $5,000 that are not on state contracts or through statutorily required sources, the State of Georgia Department of Administrative Services has initiated a contract with Bank America for a Visa Purchasing Card to be used for business purposes only when making small dollar purchases (under $1,000 per line item).  The Purchasing Card is intended to streamline payment procedures and reduce the administrative burden associated with traditional and emergency purchasing of supplies, materials, equipment, and services under the current small value purchases. Each department may set the cardholder spending limits not to exceed their budgetary restraints or in excess of $20,000 per month.

There are a few restrictions when using this card such as travel expenditures, food, hazardous chemicals and equipment (items over $999.99).  A training class is given to everyone who applies for a card before actually activating the card for purchasing.
