Date: 8/20/2008 To: MCG Faculty
The next submission deadline for the Scientist Training Program (STP) and the Interdisciplinary Research Program (IRP) is October 15, 2008. The maximum awards for these two programs have been decreased to $80,000 for the STP and $50,000 for the IRP. The earliest possible start date will be January 2009. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE GUIDELINES HAVE BEEN REVISED. The guidelines and forms for submission of applications are posted at: www.mcg.edu/SPA/mcgri/IGPmain.htm. Intramural Grants Program (IGP) Overview The Intramural Grants Program (IGP) provides opportunities for faculty members of all ranks and levels of experience as researchers to obtain funding to help compete successfully for major research funding from external sponsors. All applications are evaluated on the: 1) scientific merit of the proposed studies; 2) specificity and likelihood of success of the plans for seeking extramural funding; 3) contribution of the proposed research to the goals of the specific external funding program under which support will be requested; and 4) contribution of the research to targeted areas of strength at the MCG. It is the Principal Investigator's responsibility to obtain all of the necessary signatures on the Intramural Routing Sheet, Face Page, and Department Chair's Evaluation and Report Form. Completed applications (one original and five copies including signed Intramural Routing Sheet, Face Page, and Department Chair's Evaluation and Report Form) must be submitted to the Division of Sponsored Program Administration (DSPA) by 5 p.m. on the submission deadline date. If a faculty member from a different department than the PI is listed in the proposal as a Co-Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator, his/her Department Chair, Center/Institute Director and Dean signatures are also needed. If the budget includes MCG Health Inc. resources (personnel, facilities, services, etc.) then MCGHI's signature is required at the time of submission, which will require your proposal to be routed as well to the Office of Clinical Investigative Services (OCIS). SCHOOL OF MEDICINE FACULTY: The Dean of the School of Medicine has determined that all of its clinical research studies requiring IRB approval will need to go through OCIS Research Review Service. This must be done prior to the intramural grants program deadline. For details, here is their hyperlink that includes information about the review process: http://www.mcg.edu/OCIS/review.htm. Please be sure to start the routing process early enough in advance. No exceptions will be made for late or incomplete applications.
