Sessions/Treatments & Education

Choose from weekly group sessions, weekly individual sessions or combination of group and individual sessions.

 

Your treatment sessions will include:

Pre-screening (medical evaluation by a nurse practitioner)

Assessment of your tobacco use and readiness to quit

Strategies to help you quit

Nicotine addiction and emotional dependence

Social Support, coping strategies and stress management

Nicotine replacement therapies and other pharmacotherapy agents

Triggers to smoke and problem solving skills

Cognitive/ behavioral strategies

Weight control

Relapse prevention

   2008 Schedule (Group Sessions)

The 2008 group sessions are scheduled below.  Individual appointments are scheduled on as-needed basis. Medical screenings will be scheduled prior to the start of each group.

   Group 1

   Mondays, 8-10 a.m.

   Group 2

   Tuesdays, 5-7 p.m.

   Group 3

   Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m.

   Group 4

   Thursdays, 5-7 p.m.

Education/Research

What You Should Know.

  • Cigarette Smoking is the #1 preventable cause of death in the United States

  • National statistics show that 70% of all people who smoke want to quite.

  • Cigarette smoking increases your chances of having serious illness, such as heart disease, emphysema, lung disease, lung and other cancers.

  • Second hand smoke causes diseases in children such as allergies, asthma and ear infections.

  • National and local legislation has banned cigarette smoking in public places such as bars, restaurants and other public places where children under age 18 years might be present.

What We Are Doing About It .

  • Received funding from NIH, American Legacy Foundation, and Georgia Cancer Coalition to reduce tobacco related health disparities among ethnic minorities.

  • Ongoing biobehavioral research in public housing communities in Georgia, South Carolina.

  • Disseminated over 50 manuscripts/abstracts/presentations via interdisciplinary national forums related to research findings.
