School of Nursing Undergraduate Student Affairs Committee | Convocation | Constitution

The charge of the Undergraduate Student Affairs Committee is to develop and implement procedures pertinent to: school related activities; code of conduct; student grievance; recognition of honors of students.

 

Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS)

The MCG Student Nurses Association on the Augusta campus, and GANS-Athens on the Athens campus, chapters of the Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS) and the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), welcome the incoming nursing class and invite student nurses to join and participate in their activities.  Members of the Augusta and Athens chapters have opportunities to enhance the development of their nursing careers and maximize their leadership potential by participating in activities at the chapter (SNA), state (GANS) and national (NSNA) levels.  As the only professional organization for nursing students, the NSNA provides many benefits of membership, including free NSNA and GANS publications, special rates and discounts on products and services. NCLEX Reviews, and information on developments in the nursing professions. Membership applications will be available during orientation and registration week.

 

Student Academic Enrichment Program

The Student Academic Enrichment Program is a program developed and implemented to insure the recruitment and retainment of minority students in schools throughout the University System of Georgia. The purpose of the program at the Medical College of Georgia is to assure that minority students have access to academic guidance, tutorial and remedial services, a faculty advisor, role models in their field of interest, a mechanism to discuss issues of particular importance to minority students, and harmonious race relations among MCG students and faculty.  Meetings and programs sponsored by the Student Academic Enrichment Program are open to all students in the School of Nursing.  For more information, please contact the Sudent Affairs Office at 721-3237.

 

Phi Chi Beta of Chi Eta Phi Sorority

Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. is an organization of Registered Nurses and nursing students. This organization was founded October 16, 1932 by Mrs. Aliene C. Ewell with the assistance of eleven other nurses. The Charter Chapter, Alpha, was organized at Freedman's Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, D.C. with the two-fold purpose of elevating the plane of nursing and increasing interest in the field of nursing.  The Phi Chi Beta of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. was chartered on campus on February 28, 1987. The chapter meets monthly during the school year. It provides an avenue for educational assistance through tutorials and mentorships, scholarships, seminars and workshops, and networking with peers of other chapters as well as role models within the profession of nursing.  Through these activities and community service projects, the Phi Chi Beta Chapter carries out the purposes of the Sorority which are to develop a corps of nursing leaders, encourage continuing education, promote continuous recruitment for nursing and health professions, stimulate a close and friendly relationship among members and develop working relationship with other professional groups.  Students interested in becoming a member should contact the Beta Sponsor, Victoria Burt at (803) 279-7080. The Chapter President is SON junior, Donna Horton.
 

Student Government Association (SGA)

The purpose of this organization is to provide representation for the students of all the schools and academic programs within the university: Allied Health Science, Dentistry, Graduate Studies, Medicine and Nursing. Matters of importance to the students are studied. Recommendations are submitted to the Administration of the Medical College, and student representatives work with the Administration in implementing these recommendations. In addition, SGA has the responsibility of budgeting and disbursing funds received from the student activity fees.  Class representatives to serve in the SGA (one per fifty class members) are elected in time to assume office at the October meeting.
