 Interdisciplinary Simulation Center

The Interdisciplinary Simulation Center provides centralized state-of-the-art comprehensive, high-fidelity, interdisciplinary simulation services for the Medical College of Georgia campus and Georgia health care communities. With these tools and technologies, and the skills of the MCG faculty and staff, simulation becomes an effective and efficient method for teaching fundamental health care skills to health professions students and for teaching new procedures to novice or experienced clinicians.

Simulation employs true-to-life human models that simulate physiologic disease states and crises allowing learners to receive immediate, life-like feedback about their clinical decision-making processes. These “high-fidelity” simulators contain numerous features that assist in making them realistic such as palpable pulses, measurable blood pressure, heart sounds, hemodynamic monitoring capabilities, spontaneous ventilation, breath sounds, reactive pupils, production of output drainage (urine, chest tube) and a pharmacologic system that enables medications to be delivered and the action of the medication to be experienced.

Simulation provides a safe, practical, and immediate strategy to practice skills and document competency.  Comprehensive simulation enhances the understanding and conceptualization of patient assessment, intervention decisions, team management, and communication on patient outcomes in a controlled situation and setting.

Our Mission

The Interdisciplinary Simulation Center promotes and provides high-quality clinical education and highly reliable assessments of skills and procedures, with the ultimate intent being to advance patient care and safety.  Through comprehensive simulation, the highest level of educational and research support for healthcare students and professionals exists.
