Scholarship Program

Awards of $3,000 (for juniors) and $2,000 (for seniors) will be granted to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are enrolled full-time in the MCG BSN program. Each year, a total of fifteen scholarships will be awarded (ten juniors and five seniors) through a competitive application process.

Students must maintain a minimum G.P.A of 3.0 during the semesters in which they receive the scholarship awards.  Funds will be distributed at the beginning of each semester.

NWD scholarship recipients will be required to attend weekly tutoring sessions in Pathophysiology and Pharmacology while they are enrolled in these courses. Participants may attend additional sessions if desired.

To be considered for this wonderful opportunity, students must submit a completed application and write an essay on any aspect of nursing workforce diversity.  The essay should be two pages or less, double-spaced, and in APA format. One page of references should be included.

Peer Tutoring Program

Tutorial sessions are available for students enrolled in Pathophysiology and Pharmacology. All SON students are eligible for these services, but scholarship recipients are required to attend.

MCG nursing students in teh LRC

Tutorial services will be provided by SON seniors who have successfully completed these courses. Students seeking assistance will be expected to come to sessions prepared to study, to discuss course material, and to actively participate in the learning process.

Sessions will be offered on a per semester basis. The schedule will be adjusted to meet the needs of students and tutors.

Nursing Career Summer Camp

The Nursing Career Summer Camp (NCSC) is a five week summer program that introduces prospective students to our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

The summer camp will prepare students for entrance into a BSN program while immersing them in the nursing school environment. Students will take courses that will prepare them for undergraduate study and matriculation in our BSN program.

 

Summer camp participants will:

  1. take an introductory Pathophysiology course (3 hours elective credits)
  2. receive monthly stipends
  3. receive peer tutoring from senior level students
  4. have the opportunity to apply for scholarships totaling $40,000!

Laptop Loaner Program

The Nursing Workforce Diversity Scholarship Program offers an opportunity to check out laptop computers for use during the course of matriculation in the BSN program (based on financial need as defined by the MCG Office of Financial Aid). Laptop recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA during the year in which the laptop is on loan.  Laptop computers will be distributed prior to the end of the semester upon completion of laptop computer usage training.

Tutor Stipend Program

Five full-time, senior SON students will be selected as tutors to assist other SON students through the Peer Tutoring Program. Seniors who meet NWD criteria and have successfully completed pathophysiology or pathopharmacology with a “B” or greater will be invited to apply for peer tutor roles. Tutors will receive monthly stipends in the amount of $250 each for 8 months per academic year.
