Health Disparities Research (HDR)

The School of Nursing (SON) now has a cadre of researchers whose central interests are to develop community-based intervention studies that assist to eliminate the alarming health disparities in our communities.  The SON has received over $1.7 million dollars in extramural research and training grants this past year that directly target these initiatives.  Innovative intervention research in the areas of smoking cessation, prostate cancer screening and treatment, and HIV/other sexually transmitted diseases with ethnic minority and low-socioeconomic communities are currently in progress, as well as education/training grants to increase diversity in the healthcare workforce.
