    The Doctor of Nursing Practice

 
Admissions Requirements

-  Master’s degree in nursing or related field from and accredited

   college or university

-  Minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and minimum overall

   graduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Official transcripts are required from all colleges ever attended.

-  GRE (900 minimum) or MAT (400 minimum) taken within the last 5 years

-  International applicants, educated outside the US, must submit professional

   course by course evaluations of all foreign educational documents, at your

   own cost. Applicants can choose one of the following evaluation services:

   Josef Silny & Associates, Inc., World Education Services, or Educational

   Credential Evaluators, Inc.

-  References/recommendations from three individuals are required using the

   Admissions Reference Form for Graduate Programs at MCG.

-  If applicable, TOEFL score of 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based

   or 79 internet-based.  For more information, visit

   www.mcg.edu/Admissions/intstud.htm.

-  Prerequisites:

   1) graduate level biostatistics

   2) graduate level epidemiology from an accredited institution within the last five

       years, with a grade of B or higher.

-  Interviews by invitation only.  Applicants will be selected for an interview based on

   an initial review of submitted application materials.

-  Resume or curriculum vitae, including date of most recent revision

-  More then one year of practice in a specialty area

   indicating   mastery in nursing practice. 

-  Current professional nurse licensure, and national certification in a specialty area

   (as appropriate) is strongly encouraged.

-  A two page paper detailing concept of the role of a doctor of nursing practice is

  required as part of the application/supplement form.

-  All DNP graduates must complete a total of 1000 hours of supervised clinical

   practice as mandated by the American Academy of Colleges of Nursing. These

   hours include previous MCS clinical hours plus clinical hours obtained in the DNP

   program. All entrants to the DNP program will have their academic credentials

   and prior clinical experiences evaluated by the DNP Program Director or Co-

   Director. Based on the results of that evaluation, potential students may be

   required to provide additional documentation of clinical hours in graduate program.

   Extra coursework (i.e. nursing research, nursing) and/or participation in additional

   clinical/residency hours depending on the number of credits obtained from

   master's degree program(s) may be required.
