Awards Nominations

We are seeking nominees for awards to members who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of education, research, and scholarly writing. Awards will be presented in the spring at the research banquet.

 

The criteria for the awards are:

EDUCATION:

Purpose: To recognize exemplary contributions to nursing education.

  • Nominee must be a member of Beta Omicron Chapter.

  • Actively involved in nursing education in an academic or practice setting.

The submitter must provide a concise statement describing your nominee's contributions to nursing education. Two letters of recommendation, one from a faculty member and the other from a colleague or student, and a curriculum vitae or bio-sketch of the nominee must accompany the nomination.

 

RESEARCH:

Purpose: To foster the goals of Sigma Theta Tau by recognizing excellence in research.

  • Submitted by Principal or Co-Investigator who is a member of Beta Omicron.

  • Research must be completed within two years of submission of the award.

  • Abstract of 250 words and Research Brief under 6 pages, double-spaced must accompany submission.

EXCELLENCE IN PUBLISHED WRITING:

Purpose: To recognize dissemination of scholarly development of ideas on topics related to the goals of Sigma Theta Tau.

  • Submitted by author who is a member of Beta Omicron (only one per author considered).

  • Topic of manuscript must be related to goals of Sigma Theta Tau, such as issues of scholarship, research, or service.

  • Manuscript must be in print or have been published within two years prior to review.

MENTORING:

Purpose: To recognize an outstanding individual who fosters and actively supports development and growth of professional and scholarly advancement of nurses, Sigma Theta Tau International members, chapter leaders, and/or chapters.

The nominee has made an impact by:

  • Actively cultivating and guiding the development of others' leadership skills or leadership role(s)

  • Sharing resources and experiences to promote others' professional growth, advancement, and success

  • Supporting and sponsoring others' endeavors

  • Maintaining the mentoring relationship over time (6 months minimum)

The submitter must provide 1-2 pages documenting how the criteria was fulfilled elaborating on qualifications. Two letters of support addressing how the nominee's contribution meets the criteria must accompany the nomination.

Request for Research Grant Proposals

The purpose of the research grant program is to encourage qualified members of Beta Omicron Chapter to contribute to the advancement of nursing through research.

 

Each year, the Nursing Research Committee will review applications and make recommendations to the Board of Directors on all proposals received. The quality of the proposals, the funds requested, the number of requests, and the amount of funds available will determine the amount awarded to each applicant.

 

There will be two grants offered in 2005. 1) Individual research grant with a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $2000; and, 2) Interdisciplinary research grant with a minimum of $1000 and a maximum of $3000.

 

Allocation of funds will be based on the quality of the proposed research and past performance and future potential of the applicant. Proposals submitted by beginning researchers and researchers who have not previously been funded will be given priority.

 

Criteria for eligibility require that the principal investigator or co-investigator will:

  • be a registered nurse and current member of Beta Omicron.

  • have received formal preparation in research.

  • have a well-defined research project pertinent to the advancement of nursing.

  • demonstrate readiness to start the research project or already be in the process of the research.

  • show documentation of adequate support and / or resources sufficient to conduct the research.

Awardees will sign a research grant agreement (principal investigator and any co -Investigator). The research grant agreement will be forwarded to grantees with notification of the grant award. The agreement must be returned before grant monies will be awarded.

 

Applicants must obtain Institutional Review Board or Human Assurance Committee approval before grant funds are awarded. Review board approval may be pending at the time of grant submission.

The deadline for grant application is December 1, 2005.
