Rebecca Andrews Scholarship Award
The Rebecca Andrews Scholarship Award was established in January 1994 in memory of Rebecca Andrews, a 1984 graduate of the Masters Program in Adult Nursing. She served the Medical College of Georgia in many capacities: Staff Nurse, Neonatal ICU, Senior Staff Nurse, Emergency Services; Clinical Coordinator/Instructor, EMT-Paramedic Program; Staff Development Coordinator, Ambulatory Care Services; Trauma Coordinator, Department of Surgery; and Director, Emergency Services.
Mrs. Andrews was admired and respected as an outstanding clinician and leader by her colleagues in the health care arena, throughout the Augusta community, as well as regionally. She served as an exemplary role model for nurses, students, and other health care providers. She died December 20, 1993, following a seven-month battle with brain cancer. By the request of Mrs. Andrews, this award will be given to two students: one undergraduate and one graduate. The graduate student award is based on the applicant’s ability to demonstrate excellence in leadership. An award of $250 will be given.
- The applicant must:
- Be a currently enrolled MSN graduate student,
- Submit a scholarly paper demonstrating a commitment to nursing and the community,Submit a current resume/curriculum vitae,Submit three letters of recommendation (one must be from a SON faculty member and one must be from an employer and/or former employer),
- Have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or greater
- The paper will be judged on clarity/readability, originality, and contribution to nursing knowledge.

Ruth Vande Velde Mullins Endowed Fund for Graduate Students
The Ruth Vande Velde Mullins Endowed Fund was established by David and Michael Mullins in memory of their mother who graduated with her masters in nursing from MCG in 1975, as a non-traditional student. Ruth Vande Velde Mullins devoted many years of her life to nursing education. This annual scholarship awards a minimum of $1,000 to a Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing student who has a 2.8 GPA and who writes a one page statement of purpose/goals. (Full-time MCG School of Nursing faculty should not apply). Priority will be given as follows:
- A graduate nursing student who is interested in a career in nursing education
- A graduate nursing student
- Any nursing student

Ralph W. and Harriet H. McAfee Award
The Ralph W. and Harriet M. McAfee Award was established in 2005 by SON Alumna Colonel Gayle Wooding in memory of her parents. An award of $400 will be given to a graduate student, based on merit and financial need, who plans to pursue a career in gerontology. (Full-time MCG School of Nursing faculty should not apply).
The applicant must:
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the time of application
- Be able to demonstrate financial need
- Submit an essay addressing why he/she believes gerontology is an important specialty in nursing

Drs. Vickie A. and Clinton E. Lambert Nursing Scholarship Award
The Drs. Vickie A. and Clinton E. Lambert Nursing Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing. This award is given to a PhD student who demonstrates excellence in scholarly written work. A monetary award of $500 is given. (Full-time MCG School of Nursing faculty should not apply). The applicant must:
- Be a currently enrolled PhD student or have graduated during the academic year in which the award is given.
- Submit at least one, but no more than three examples of scholarly written work (i.e., published manuscript, chapter, or book; or submitted manuscript, chapter or book). Works that have been submitted for publication are to be accompanied by the letter of submission sent to the journal/publisher. Submission of a completed dissertation document is not appropriate.
The required documentation must have been submitted or published while the applicant was a PhD nursing student and will be judged on:
- Clarity of thought/readability
- Originality
- Contribution to nursing knowledge

Marilyn Chew Lunn Memorial Nursing Leadership Award
This fund was established in November 1992 in tribute to Marilyn Chew Lunn, who served on the School of Nursing faculty from 1975 to 1981. The recipient of the award demonstrates outstanding leadership in either nursing education or clinical nursing practice. An award of $1,500 is given.
Those eligible to submit applications include: 1) current graduate nursing students in the MCG masters or doctoral programs; (2) current faculty of the MCG School of Nursing, or 3) alumni of the MCG School of Nursing graduate programs in nursing who are currently engaged in either nursing education or clinical nursing practice.
The applicant must submit the following:
- A current curriculum vitae,
- Examples demonstrating outstanding leadership in either nursing education or clinical nursing practice (i.e. publications, descriptions of special projects developed by the applicant, awards given for outstanding performance in education or practice, letters of commendation), and
- A statement describing why the applicant is a leader in either nursing education or clinical nursing practice.
The application will be judged on:
- Breadth and quality of leadership in nursing education or clinical nursing practice
- Originality of leadership contributions

Sigma Theta Tau Graduate Award
The Sigma Theta Tau Graduate Award was established in 1984 and is given for the scholarly graduate student paper judged best in competition. This award of $100 is funded by the Beta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. The applicant does not have to be a member of Sigma Theta Tau to be eligible. The submitted scholarly paper should meet the following criteria:
- Topic must reflect a relevant and timely nursing issue,
- The paper must demonstrate the incorporation of theoretical underpinnings,
- The paper must be organized in such a manner that it is easy to read,
- APA style must be used,
- The paper should be 10 to 15 pages in length (including diagrams and the reference list).
Students wishing to participate must be registered graduate students in the School of Nursing. Selection of the winner will be made by a faculty judging committee.

Emily Flanders Nairn Award
The Emily Flanders Nairn Endowment provides a graduate nursing scholarship for students who focus their studies on any aspects of addiction or its consequences with preference given to applicant who demonstrates financial need. In the absence of an applicant with financial merit, only the addiction-related condition will apply. An award of $400 will be given. (Full-time MCG School of Nursing faculty should not apply).
The applicant must:
- Be a currently enrolled graduate nursing student
- Submit a proposal identifying a treatment plan for a specific addiction
- Provide a letter of reference from an MCG faculty member

Alumni Association Award For Best Scholarly Paper
The Alumni Award, established in 1981 by the School of Nursing Alumni Association, is an annual award of $250 to the graduate student who submits a paper judged best in competition. The paper may be on any topic relevant to nursing, and will be judged on clarity of thought, originality of ideas, thorough exploration of the topic, and the extent to which an interesting approach is use to present the topic. A panel of faculty judges selected by the Dean will determine the winner.Guidelines for the submission are as follows.
- Paper must be typewritten and double spaced.
- Paper must follow APA format and use appropriate grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Paper must have a current bibliography from varied and professional sources.
- Paper must have a cover page with your name, phone number and address.

Donna M. Fair Scholar Award
The Donna M. Fair Scholar Award was established in 1999 in memory of Donna M. Fair, a professor and alumna of the MCG School of Nursing. Joining the Department of Adult Nursing in 1973, she taught medical surgical nursing and served as Coordinator of the Nursing Skills Laboratory during her tenure at the School of Nursing. Ms. Fair retired in 1995 and died in 1999.
An endowment has been established through a bequest from Ms. Fair to fund awards to students who demonstrate promise in specialty nursing fields important to Ms. Fair. Two students, one undergraduate and one graduate, will receive awards annually. The awards also consider leadership ability. An award of $1,000 will be given to each of the winners. The criteria are:
- Must submit a paper discussing the following question: “Would you pursue or are you involved in a nursing career in the specialty areas of respiratory care, rehabilitation, adult medical or surgical intensive care units (ICU, CCU) emergency specialty care unit (acute and trauma), surgical specialty care (operating room), post anesthesia specialty care (recovery room) and or primary care nursing (ANP, FNP)? if yes, discuss your interest and/or involvement in these specialties, and describe their impact on the field of nursing and patient care?”
- The paper must follow APA format, be typewritten and double spaced, with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Must submit one letter of recommendation from a faculty member discussing applicant’s leadership abilities.
- Must enclose a sealed copy of your most recent MCG transcript, showing a GPA of at least 3.0.
A panel formed from the School of Nursing Alumni Association’s Board of Directors will determine the winner.

The Drs. Christian and Ellis DNP Award
This award was established in 2007 by Dr. Patricia L. Christian and Dr. Linda A. Ellis to recognize a student in the Doctorate in Nursing Practice program whose interest is to improve the mental health of clients. A $1,000 award is given. The applicant must:
- Be a full-time student
- Maintain a GPA of 3.5
- Submit letters of support from two faculty members that address the student’s work in improving the mental health of clients
- Submit a CV highlighting experience, presentations, and project components that address mental health issues of clients

Frances Crittenden Nurse Practitioner Scholarship
The Frances Crittenden Nurse Practitioner Scholarship Endowment was established in memory of a caring nurse practitioner who was known for her love of students and dedication to patient excellence. This $100 award is given to the graduating nurse practitioner (NP) student who has demonstrated excellence and creativity in course work and clinical NP practice. MCG Nurse Practitioner Program faculty will nominate candidates with final selection made by the School of Nursing Scholarship Committee based on these additional factors:
- The recipient demonstrates caring behaviors with peers, faculty and patients and shows evidence of involvement in MCG, community and/or professional activities.
- The recipient shows evidence of increased personal awareness and growth through sensitivity to others as well as superior communication skills and accountability.

Joyce E. Todd Scholarship Award
The Joyce E. Todd Scholarship Award was established by her family honoring her pursuit of nursing as a career as a non-traditional, adult student. Preference will be given to an adult learner who likewise is making a similar pursuit. An award of $500 will be given.
A. The applicant must be:
- Student pursuing a second career
- A first-year student who has maintained an overall 3.0 GPA in the program
- A student whose maturity has provided guidance and support to fellow classmates
B. The applicant must submit:
- A resume describing work and life experiences
- Two letters of support. One should be from a nursing faculty and one from a fellow student.
C. Priority will be given as follows:
- To a junior BSN student
- To a CNL student

MCG Health Inc. Nursing Scholars Endowment Fund
Established by MCG Health Inc. the Nursing Scholars Endowment Award provides a $2,500 scholarship to a MCG graduate nursing student with selection made by the MCG School of Nursing Scholarship Committee. Preference will be given to a CNL student. The committee will also base its selection on the following criteria:
- Maintain minimum GPA of 3.5
- Submit an essay on any aspect of the nursing shortage you would like to explore. The essay should be in APA format, 3 pages in length, double spaced, and should include references.
- Faculty nomination plus two additional letters of reference from MCG School of Nursing faculty.

Dr. and Mrs. David Jerram Scholarship
The Dr. and Mrs. David Jerram Scholarship establishes a $2,000 award to a graduate student who has shown academic excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate work, shows contribution or willingness to contribute to scholarship works, and shows involvement in professional organizations. Selection will be made by the SON Scholarship Committee with priority given to a PhD student whose:
- Research interest matches the research priorities of MCG and the School of Nursing
- GPA is 3.5 or above with special consideration given to grades earned in the research design course
- Research proposal, submitted for review, is of high quality and clearly written
- Involvement in professional organizations is clearly demonstrated.
The candidate should submit:
- A copy of grade reports reflecting the last two semesters of the student's program of study
- A proposal (no more than 5 pages) describing the student's area of research, how the research area fits with the SON's priorities, and the name of the faculty member who will serve as the major advisor for the study.
- CV, which includes the student's involvement (past and present) in professional organizations, any other research endeavors and publications
- A letter of support from a faculty member who has worked with the student

Mary Allen Lindsey Branan Scholarship
The Branan Graduate Nursing Scholarship is a scholarship established to advance nursing research by facilitating the studies of a graduate nursing student who best demonstrates promise for exemplary research. The award will be determined by the recipient’s academic record and clarity of research goals and may be given to more than one student per academic year (not to exceed $4,000 in total awards). This award may be used by students for tuition, research, professional travel, or other expenses directly related to their program of study.
The applicant must:
- Be a full time PhD student
- Demonstrate superior performance in prior academic programs
- Exhibit well-defined goals for doctoral study as evaluated by personal statement
- Show evidence of outstanding professional contributions to the nursing profession and the health care arena with an emphasis on research potential and productivity as the student progresses in the program
