General Surgery Residency Program

Application Requirements

The General Surgery Residency Program at the Medical College of Georgia offers five categorical positions for each academic year. Applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Additional information regarding the program can be accessed via the American Medical Association’s FREIDA Online

We interview for five categorical positions each year.  We do not offer preliminary positions.

To be competitive, a score of 200 and above on the USMLE Step I is desirable. Completion of USMLE Step II is not required at time of application. One letter of recommendation from the Chairman, Department of Surgery at the applicant's medical school, and two additional letters of recommendation from other faculty/colleagues are required.

Only J1 Visas will be sponsored. No previous US experience is required or minimum date from medical school graduation set.  We prefer not to set any specific requirements, just please submit your application and it will be reviewed by the program director.  ECFMG certification is not required at the time of application, but is required by the match. The yearly deadline for application is February 1st.

If invited to interview for a categorical General Surgery position, the list below represents available interview dates. Each interview day is preceded by a complementary evening welcome reception held at the hotel. This reception will give the applicants an excellent opportunity to socialize with emeritus and current Department of Surgery faculty members, current residents, and their spouses. Dress for the reception is casual. Prearranged shuttle services are offered to those who lodge at The Partridge Inn www.partridgeinn.com (1-800-476-6888).
