I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with emphasis in Broadcasting from the University of Tennessee. I received my medical doctorate in 2007 right here at the Medical College of Georgia. I genuinely love it here in Augusta, and this was my number one choice when it came time to rank residencies for several reasons. I have three children, two are school aged, and the school districts in Columbia County consistently rank among the highest in the Southeast on standardized national testing, such as the CRCT. But most importantly, I had the opportunity to get to know the residents here when I did my psychiatry rotation during my fourth year of med school. There is truly is a family atmosphere in our department. In addition, the interns with whom I am currently working are all very much team players, which creates a most desirable work environment. I hope you enjoy Augusta as much as I do and that you seriously consider MCG for your next four years.

Hey all. I come from the west coast. Born and raised in Seattle and attended University of Washington, which is where I obtained a degree in Psychology. Obtained my medical degree at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in California. Completed a year of internal medicine at University of Southern California, decided it was not for me and transitioned into Psychiatry. I feel that I made a great choice to continue my education at MCG. There are great people working here and the education is very well-rounded. I am confident that you will find that MCG is a stellar place for a Psychiatry residency. Any questions are welcomed!

I grew up in a small town just south of Augusta, GA. I went to the University of Georgia for undergrad and majored in biology. For my medical school training, I attended the Medical College of Georgia and graduated in May 2007. I enjoy playing tennis, reading, watching movies, and attending sporting events (most notably UGA football games). I chose psychiatry after completing the psychiatry clerkship as a 3rd year. My decision to stay at MCG for residency was easy—on the interview trail, I could not find a better group of faculty, residents, and staff to work with than the group already in place at MCG. My desire at this time is to pursue a career in child and adolescent psychiatry. I am also considering work in medical missions in some capacity, whether it be short- or long-term. I hope you enjoy your visit to MCG, and I also hope you like what you see of our department. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about MCG or the Augusta area.

Hi everyone. The road less traveled by has made all the difference for me. I grew up in Chicago, Il. I went to undergrad at The University of Texas at Austin. While I received a degree in Economics, I have always been interested in psychology and helping people with mental illness. Ironically, working in the business world further strengthened my desire to help people with mental illness. I went to medical school at The American University of the Caribbean. From the beginning of medical school, I have been focused on becoming a psychiatrist. However, I wanted to gain exposure to primary care medicine before embarking on a career in psychiatry. I finished my first year of residency in Internal Medicine at Providence Hospital in Michigan. I am very grateful for my experience in Internal Medicine and business. I am also fortunate to start on my path towards psychiatry at The Medical College of Georgia. I am very happy here. The program is academically well rounded. The faculty and residents are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and just genuinely nice people to work with. Augusta is a laid back city with many fun things to do. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Hi everyone. Life is interesting as it can take some rather unexpected turns. I graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, majoring in Psychology. I had initially thought I was going to pursue a PhD in Psychology while in my early years of college. It wasn’t until I met my wife who introduced the idea of medical school to keep options open. Listening to my wife as most men do, I enrolled in medical school and four years later graduated from Saint Christopher’s College of Medicine. Once again, my perplexed mind led me into engaging a residency in Internal Medicine with UNC and a possible fellowship in gastroenterology. About one third the way through my intern year of Internal Medicine I had realized that I truly enjoyed working with patients that have psychiatric illnesses more so than general medicine or any of its subspecialties. I was faced with an extremely difficult decision to make, but I was at unrest and now faced with a huge dilemma. I listened to my instinct and applied to Psychiatry residencies mainly in the southeast to be close to home in Charleston, SC. I was extremely lucky to have been accepted at Medical College of Georgia and had transferred after completion of one year in Internal Medicine. MCG hosts some of the finest attendings, residents and teaching opportunities one could ever hope to find. I absolutely enjoy being a part of this family and I hope those of you pursuing happiness will find a similar experience should you choose to come to MCG and the offerings of a mid-size city such as Augusta. I am sure you will!

Hello! I took an interesting path to becoming a psychiatrist. After obtaining a bachelors degree in finance from the Florida State University, I went to work for Smith Barney for several years. I realized that I had a good job, but I did not have a life’s work that would offer me the challenge, fulfillment, and human aspect of medicine. I had always been interested in medicine, but since nobody in my family has ever been a doctor, I was a bit reluctant. I decided to pursue a second bachelors degree in biology, and apply to med school. I attended the Univ of South Florida, and as you can see, I am now a psychiatry resident. I am glad that I made a career change. We have a good hospital system here, with opportunities to see a diverse patient population. Furthermore, MCG offers a collegiate atmosphere that makes learning and growing as a resident a tolerable experience! Augusta is a great place for residency training. The cost of living is low here, and there are a number of outdoor activities of which you can take advantage. Atlanta, Charleston, and Charlotte are all within driving distance for weekend getaways or vacation. If you choose MCG, you will have a well-rounded experience, and I think you will be happy with your choice.
