Maninder Bali, M.D.

Hello everyone, I am an international graduate from India who came to USA three years ago with a dream in my heart, today I am living that dream. The idea of moving to Augusta made me both nervous and excited. Now after having worked in our psychiatry program I feel it has been one of the best decisions of my life. Our Psychiatry Program at MCG is at the cutting edge of research programs and clinical interaction. Even more important for me is the feeling of belonging to a larger family at MCG. Our faculty and senior residents take it upon themselves to make us feel welcome and integrate into the program. The knowledge and technical expertise of the faculty, the varied and diverse patient interaction and abundant research opportunities make MCG a dream program for me. In addition, living in Augusta, with its low cost of living, safe neighborhoods, friendly locals has been a positive experience for me. Augusta’s proximity to beaches like Savannah, Charleston and Hilton Head make it perfect a perfect place for an ideal work/play balance.

A few weeks ago one of my professors told me, in other medical disciplines one cures patient's ailments, in psychiatry they open their lives to you - you are their physician, their guide, their pastor all rolled into one. I never found that advice more relevant than when I get an ER call in the middle of the night. Sage professors, extensive patient interactions, dedicated and knowledgeable faculty and a state of the art program - like I said "Living the Dream". Hope you can find yours as well.

Hi all.  I was born and raised in Augusta Georgia.  I attended undergrad at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA where I got a degree in Liberal Studies.  For medical school I decided to stay in Middle Georgia and attended Mercer University School of Medicine.  My experience there was fun and unique.  I originally intended to train in pediatrics, however I decided to go into psychiatry because it was the only rotation that I truly enjoyed during my third year of medical school.  I have not found one specialty that is as interesting as psychiatry and I am very happy with my decision to pursue it as a career.  I decided that MCG was the program for me after completing a fourth year elective here.  The attendings were all friendly and accessible and the residents all seemed to support each other.  I am very happy with my decision to train here and if you have any questions for me, please just send me an email.

I graduated from Pakistan then moved to Atlanta, Georgia. I have worked at Emory University Psychiatry Department in research. I loved MCG when I came for an interview. I moved from a big city but I can tell you, my family and I love it here. The traffic is not bad at all. The attendings love to teach and are friendly, the residents are co-operative and helpful. I think I am having a wonderful time of my life. If you have got any questions for me you can email me anytime.

I interviewed at many places from Texas (hot in Houston!) to Philadelphia (cold in Pitt!) and every where in between and made the decision to stay at MCG.  I am very grateful for that decision and getting my first choice, because my experience thus far has been great with my peers and attendings. Could not ask for more. I grew up in the Appalachain mountains, and was a commercial electrician in my former life. Then I became a Gator during graduate school (analytical chemistry) at the University of Florida. During which time I enjoyed climbing volcanoes with my Russian friends and diving for scallops in the gulf. Now I am here trying to learn what makes the human brain tick.

I completed my medical education at Bombay before I moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where I had been working at the Yale University Schizophrenia Research Program for 2 years, then came to MCG with a strong interest in Psychiatry and am enjoying the process of becoming a psychiatrist. I am highly impressed with the supportive faculty and residents.
