NAMI Family Cook-Out

The Psychiatry Department from residents to senior faculty had a great time with the July 2008 FUN(d)-raiser for the local affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). A good old fashioned baseball game at the local GreenJackets stadium emphasizes "a meaningful life in the community for everyone" in a way few events could!

Members of the department and the community bought and donated tickets, staffed a literature table on the concourse, spoke in an on-field introduction, and raffled off an autographed baseball. Department chair Dr. Peter Buckley “hit a home run for fun” by hosting a cook-out and throwing out the opening pitch. MCG Certified Peer Specialist and NAMI Augusta president Gareth Fenley sat in for a LIVE interview in the broadcast booth.

More special thanks to MCG graduate Dr. Monique Lentz of Comprehensive Psychiatric Services, MCG administrative assistant and “all-star” ticket handler Nikki Curd, “Papa-Razzi” photographer Dr. Stewart Shevitz, and everyone else who participated.
