Goals and Objectives
Second Year
The core rotations for the second year of residency in child and adolescent psychiatry focus on outpatient psychiatry. The outpatient rotation focuses on assessment of children and adolescent of all ages and treatment of children, adolescents and families across various treatment modalities of psychopharmacology and psychotherapeutic interventions. Group therapy experiences in a variety of areas are also provided. In addition, the child residents have an opportunity to gain experience in a number of community settings.
The school-consultation rotation at the Sand Hills Psychoeducational Center will provide the child resident with the experience in the diagnostic evaluation and treatment of school related problems of the behavior disordered and develop skills in working within the school setting as a consultant to teachers and school administrators regarding behavioral issues. A rotation at a Department of Juvenile Justice facility will provide the resident with the experience of working in the Juvenile Justice system with adolescents in an adjudicated intervention program.
The second year rotation also affords the child residents an opportunity to enhance their skills in the area of teaching and supervision and to complete research projects undertaken earlier in their training. Second year didactics are listed in the attached Didactic Objectives. Specific objectives for each of these rotations are listed in the attached clinical rotations.
