Clinical Pathology: The general objective of the program in clinical pathology is to develop professional and administrative skills required of effective clinical pathologists. Skill should occur in four general areas of responsibility: service, research and development, education and management. A basic six month program in the first year at the MCG Hospital is followed by six month periods during the second and third years at MCG and the VAMC with assignments to major laboratory areas and clinical medicine hematology. Advanced level electives in various subspecialties are offered at the MCG Hospital during the flexible fourth year. Duties of the residents assigned at the beginning of each rotation by the directors of the laboratories. Clinical Pathology services includes microbiology, clinical chemistry, toxicology, cytopathology, hematology, blood banking/transfusion medicine, and immunopathology. The resident is expected to assume specific and increasing medical responsibilities.
