Surgical Pathology Fellowship
Phone: 706-721-5118 Fax: 706-721-7781 Description: Two one-year fellowship positions are offered each year beginning July 1. The program is designed to provide a concentrated experience in diagnostic surgical pathology and to allow increasing clinical responsibility in preparation of independent practice. The fellowship is based largely at The Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics but interacts with The Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics is composed of a 483-bed adult tertiary care hospital and a 149-bed Children's Medical Center. Approximately 14,000 surgical cases are accessioned each year. The fellow will sign out surgical cases, perform and interpret fine needle aspirations, and provide frozen section and gross room coverage at the junior faculty level with appropriate senior faculty supervision. In addition, the fellow will participate in intra- and interdepartmental teaching conferences and help in the teaching of pathology residents and medical students. Electives are offered in surgical pathology subspecialty areas including Hematopathology, Dermatopatholoy, Renal, Cytopathology, Neuropathology, and GI pathology. Research opportunities are available in a variety of subspecialty areas of surgical pathology and are strongly encouraged. Requirements: Board elibility or completion of a four-year AP/CP or three-year AP program, approved by the RRC and ACGME in the US or Canada.
