Location: Southeast GA Health Systm Laboratory, Brunswick, GA

Enrollment:  1

Prerequisites:  Phase II

Duration: 1month

Months Offered: Throughout the year

Goals: To help students develop skills in the diagnostic aspect of Pathology. Allow students to participate in the daily functions of a busy community pathology practice. Permit students an opportunity to participate in forensic pathology autopsy cases that are undertaken as part of functions of the Glynn County Medical Examiners Office.

Objectives: Provide students with an opportunity to rotate through a busy pathology department and experience the full array of daily functions undertaken in such.

Activities: Daily sign-out with pathologist. Daily triage of clinical pathology and blood banking problems. Participation in gross examination of anatomical pathology cases. Participation in autopsy service. Participation in tumor conference. Participation in frozen section outreach service.

Seminar Hours: 1
Small Group: 5

Assessment: Evaluation performed on following skills:

  1. Gross examination of surgical specimens.
  2. Microscopic examination of surgical specimens.
  3. Case presentation and problem solving.
  4. Professionalism and attendance.
  5. Case relevant systemic and general pathology
