Enrollment:  1 Minimum, 1 Maximum

Prerequisites:  Phase II

Duration: 1 month

Months Offered: January through October

Transfusion medicine/hemotherapy is a rapidly expanding discipline in the clinical application of transfusion and apheresis therapy. All students will receive basic instruction in immunohematology, blood component therapy, apheresis techniques, autologous and homologous donation methods, and participate in consultations. Specific activities can be tailored for special areas of interest. Informal didactic sessions will supplement service rotations and required reading assignments. Rotation at a community blood center for orientation purposes and other special projects can be arranged. (By arrangement with Dr. Cook)
