Mission: To educate Neurological surgeons who demonstrate technical excellence, good judgment, a commitment to their patients, and to continued self improvement. Goal: The graduates of the Medical College of Georgia program in Neurosurgery will demonstrate:
General Organization: The Neurosurgical Residency program at the Medical College of Georgia includes six years of training, the first year is in basic surgery and 3 months of neurology. The subsequent five years are in neurosurgery. The basic surgery component involves a series of rotations on various surgical, and emergency services to prepare for specialized training in neurosurgery. It is entered after the trainee has completed medical school training. The Neurosurgical program involves progressive rotations in which the individual trainee is assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with the level of training. Specific assignments are for periods of three months.
Various quarters of a year or even a whole year might be interchanged,
depending upon the needs of the individual and the service, however, each
of the listed assignments will occur. Facilities: The Residency hospitals include the Medical College of Georgia, Childrens Medical Center and the Augusta Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC).
