General Information
Pediatric neurosurgery is a sub-specialty of Neurosurgery and requires
additional fellowship training after residency to specialize in the care of
infants and children. Our specialty is dedicated to the particular problems
seen, and sometimes unique to, the pediatric age group. In addition, adult
patients with congenital anomalies such as Chiari malformations, tethered spinal
cords and spinal dysraphism are often managed by the Pediatric Neurosurgery
service. |

Facilities
The Children’s Medical Center
at the Medical College of Georgia
We are expertly supported by the pediatric intensive care unit and neonatal
intensive care unit that are staffed around the clock with pediatric intensivists and neonatologists. The operating rooms are equipped with a
neurosurgical microscope, two frameless stereotactic systems, an ultrasonic
aspirator for tumor removal, and a full complement of endoscopes. Hospital rooms
have convertible beds present for the parents/family so they may spend the
night. Family members may be with patients at all times even in the intensive
care unit. A Ronald McDonald House (706-724-5901) is located conveniently nearby
to house family members as well. |
