C. Fellows Scholarly Activities and Research

1. The MCG ID fellowship program provides ample opportunity for fellows to participate in research or other scholarly activities. (See specifics above)

2. Participation is not voluntary, but an essential component of ID fellowship training.

a) Research activities will be supervised and conducted during months not assigned to the inpatient ID Consult Service.

b) Depending upon the area of infectious disease interest, the fellow will select a faculty mentor to assist and supervise the conduct of the scholarly activity

c) Fellows will learn from the supervising faculty the standards of ethical conduct of research, design and interpretation of research studies, responsible use of informed consent, research methods, and interpretation of data.

d) Fellows will generally demonstrate evidence of recent scholarly activity through

(1)publication of manuscripts or abstracts in peer-reviewed journals or

(2) abstracts presented at the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy or the annual meeting of the Infectious Disease Society of America
