The curriculum is an organized and hopefully effective curriculum consisting of both didactic learning and patient-related learning. It provides fellows with direct experience and, as the fellow learns, progressive responsibility for patient management always under the watchful eye of ID faculty. It is expected that the graduating fellow
will have developed his/her own, unique, manner of appropriate patient evaluation and decision-making regarding patient care and that supervising faculty will allow the senior fellow increasing latitude, realizing that there may be more than one acceptable way to manage patients. The senior fellow’s approach may differ somewhat from that of the supervising faculty, but if it is well within the standard of care, the supervising faculty will endorse the fellow’s approach.
