ALTTO -- Adjuvant Lapatinib and/or Trastuzumab Treatment Optimization for HER2/ ErbB2 positive primary breast cancer

The purpose of this research study is to:

  • Find out what effects (good and bad) the study treatment has on you and your cancer.
  • Compare four different study treatment combinations to see if one is better.
  • Find out what effects this study has on your quality of life.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this trial if:

  • You have early stage HER2 Positive (HER2+) breast cancer that has been surgically removed and have received adjuvant (or neoadjuvant) treatment with anthracycline-based chemotherapy
  • You are at least 18 years of age.
  • It has been no longer than 6 weeks from Day 1 of the last chemotherapy. Study treatment should start no more than 14 days after randomization and must be concurrent with paclitaxel.
  • EXCLUDE: Positive or suspicious internal mammary nodes identified by sentinel node technique which have not been irradiated or will not be irradiated, OR supraclavicular lymph node involvement
  • EXCLUDE: Prior use of anti-HER2 therapy for any reason or other prior biologic or immunotherapy for breast cancer
