Residency Program Mission Statement

  • Provide Superior Educational Experience
    • To train/prepare dermatology residents:
      • To be board certified and meet and exceed requirements of the American Board of Dermatology
      • To be able to diagnose and treat all dermatology problems, medical and surgical
      • To comprehend and apply current basic science, dermatopathology, and clinical science
      • To enter careers in private, public, or academic medicine
    • To encourage personal and professional growth, achievement of goals, continuous improvement, lifelong learning
    • To teach medical students, other residents, and the broader medical and lay community
    • To instill professional ethics
    • To prepare residents for the business/administrative aspect of dermatology practice
  • Provide Excellent Patient Care/Service
    • To provide superior, comprehensive medical and surgical dermatologic care:
      • In MCG and VA outpatient clinics and in inpatient wards
      • Encompassing latest advances in medical and surgical therapeutics
  • Promote Cutting Edge Research
    • To encourage/allow/conduct high quality basic science research and clinical research in skin diseases, with goal of publication of data and knowledge advancement leading to newer and better treatments for diseases of the skin, hair and nails
    • To encourage and support resident involvement in scholarly activity, including, but not limited to, preparation of papers for presentations at meetings and for publication
