Peripheral Vascular Disease

Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is the name for atherosclerotic disease in blood vessels outside of the heart. This is the same disease process that happens in the coronary arteries of the heart. Although it is not as well known as heart disease, PVD can be very devestating to your health. Arteries develop hardened plaques and blockages that obstruct bloodflow. The particular symptoms depend on what part of the body is lacking proper blood flow. They can range from leg pain at rest to non-healing wounds like gangrene. The following information is for educational purposes only. Your physician can help determine what your condition is and what treatment options are available to you. Please make an appointment with one of our PVD experts if suspect this disease is affecting you or a family member.
