Comprehensive Cardiac Care

In April 2005, MCG Health System opened the new Cardiovascular Center at 1003 Chafee Avenue--a free-standing, state-of-the-art outpatient facility for patients needing experienced cardiovascular care in a patient- and family-centered environment.

The MCG Cardiovascular Center of Excellence treats all aspects of heart disease, including valve prolapse, clogged arteries, arrhythmia, angina, heart failure and congenital heart disease. Services offered include mitral valve repair, stent implantation, balloon angioplasty, biventricular pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, the laser-guided removal of pacemaker leads and other cardiology services.

The center includes the outpatient practice site, a cardiology cath lab, a cardiology echo lab, an EKG lab and myocardial perfusion imaging services. A new electrophysiology lab has been completed as well. Plans are underway for a dedicated cardiac ICU, as well as specialized surgeries such as heart transplantation.

To help empower patients, the center also features a patient education area with literature and a computer where family members and patients can research diagnoses, treatments and management tips for heart disease.
