Classes are presented in a small group format (12 or under) and some incorporate videos and question and answer sessions. Curriculum is based on the stages of change model of behavior change and emphasize the importance of patients taking steps to modify unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Classes are also presented at off-campus locations such as senior living centers or to parent groups.
Classes are advertised via
brochures available in vital signs rooms and in lobby
notices posted on bulletin boards in lobby and clinic
newspaper ads, health calendars, community event calendars
radio and television spots
quarterly MCG HealthCare "For Your Good Health" newsletter and community calendar
"Class Today" sign is placed on front desk
Providers are encouraged to refer patients to the classes.
Individual patient education is also available from a full-time Patient Educator. The Patient Educator has access to a video library and a wide variety of handouts and pamphlets are available as well as computer-generated fact sheets.
A health information kiosk is located in the waiting room.
