HIV Infection


1. Discuss the physician's basic legal requirements regarding confidentiality, counseling and reporting under the new AIDS Law (Act 1440) effective July 1, 1988.

2. What are the criteria for diagnosis of AIDS?  Describe the sensitivity and specificity of screening tests.

3. Describe the early and late symptoms associated with HIV infection.

4. Describe the clinical manifestations of HIV infection on at least two anatomical parts of the body.

5. Cite two key areas of a patient history in which to assess the risk of HIV infection.

6. Cite at least three key points in educating women of childbearing age who are at increased risk of HIV infection.

7. Cite at least three key  points to address with patients in both pre-test and post-test counseling associated with the HIV antibody test.

8. Describe the primary care approach to the management of HIV/AIDS to include screening and follow up labs and immunizations.

9. Describe current treatment goals and options.

10. Describe critical issues in providing care for children with HIV infections.
