Prerequisites:                Completion of Core Rotations

Duration:                       1 month

Months Offered:             July through June

Goal:  To provide the student a clinical experience in Sports Medicine.

Objectives:   At the end of this elective, the student will:

  • Be exposed to a wide range of sports medicine problems.
  • Receive clinical experience as well as participate in the field side medical coverage of various sporting events in the community.
  • Be able to evaluate patients and perform thorough musculoskeletal physical examinations.
  • Be familiar with the management of common sports medicine injuries.
  • Be able to gain the confidence of patients by meeting their health needs appropriately.
  • Be able to identify the health resources available in the community.

Assessment:  Clinical performance evaluation by faculty is based on student’s performance in the areas of:  patient care, medical knowledge, practice based learning and improvement, professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills and systems based learning.

(Participation in this elective must be approved by the Medical Student Coordinator, Department of Family Medicine, MCG.)
