                                    State of Georgia

Prerequisites:                FMP5000 or MED5000 

Duration:                       1 month

Months Offered:             July through June

Goal:  To provide the student with a supervised experience in the evaluation and management of patients with undifferentiated clinical problems encountered in the practice of Family Medicine.

Objectives:  At the end of this elective, the student will:

  • Have been exposed to the office practice of family medicine, hospital rounds, house calls, emergency room visits, and selected community activities.
  • Be able to recognize the importance of health maintenance.
  • Recognize the important of being the physician of first contact.
  • Be able to gain the confidence of patients by meeting their health needs appropriately.
  • Be able to identify the health resources available in the community.

Assessment:  Clinical performance evaluation by faculty is based on student’s performance in the areas of:  patient care, medical knowledge, practice based learning and improvement, professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills and systems based learning.
