This student-led organization promotes
interest in primary care, particularly Family Medicine. Periodic lunch or
dinner meetings feature speakers on a wide range of topics, from practice
scope to selection of a practice site. The group also sponsors an annual Southeastern Family Medicine Residency Fair. FMIG is supported by the
Department of Family Medicine, the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, the
American Academy of Family Physicians, and Aventis Pharmaceuticals.
Membership for first-year medical students is free and includes a year’s
subscription to American Family Physician, a peer-reviewed monthly journal
covering Family Practice issues. The AAFP also provides a great
website for students and Family Medicine Interest Groups: http://fmignet.aafp.org.
