Course Description

The main goal is to allow each medical student the best possible international exchange experience during their rotation in Honduras. The principal areas of training will be in minor surgery, labor and delivery, evaluation of ER trauma, and application of acquired theoretical knowledge.

Students will work in assigned areas of rotation from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday with one on-call (5:00 AM–7:00AM) per week, weekends will be free time to enjoy the beauty of the country. Tours can be arranged to outlying areas at an additional cost.

  • All in-hospital work will be authorized and supervised by an attending physician.

  • Hospital regulations must be strictly adhered to at all times.

  • Appropriate clothing must be used in designated areas of the hospital.

  • OR time will be by authorization of the attending surgeon.

  • Students are expected to attend classes within their specialty areas each afternoon from 1:00–3:00 PM. Previous preparation will be necessary in order to participate in discussion.

Assignment to specialty areas will depend upon the length of student's stay:

  • Two-week rotation: one week surgery/emergency and one week labor and delivery.

  • Three-week rotation: above plus one week in pediatrics.
