Grade Appeals:

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING A GRADE APPEAL DO NOT CONTACT YOUR RESIDENT, ATTENDING PHYSICIAN OR PRECEPTOR!

School-wide Policy:  If you contact a member of your service to discuss changing your grade, you forfeit the right for a grade appeal.

Students who wish to contest their clerkship grade may do so in the following manner:

Contact the Clerkship Coordinator or Clerkship Director.  It is inappropriate for the student to directly approach a clinical preceptor/resident about a clerkship grade.

The student should submit written evidence to support his/her case.

The Clerkship Director will contact the appropriate clinical preceptor(s) and solicit his/her evaluation in light of the new information from the student.

The Clerkship Director will inform the student of the results of the appeal as soon as information is available.

In accordance with policies from the Curriculum Office, documentation of the student’s appeal will be made in the student’s final clerkship evaluation, regardless of the outcome.

OBGYN Clerkship Policy:

  1. Contact the clerkship office
  2. Obtain the information regarding grade appeals
  3. You will be asked to read, ask questions and sign a form regarding the procedure, risks and benefits of the grade appeal

Any student who has not previously approached team members to discuss their grade has the right to appeal.

Few if any students, except in the case of missed identity, have an appeal result in a grade change.
