Housing Description: Students completing rotations in and around Savannah are provided with housing by the Magnolia Coastlands AHEC as well as by St. Joseph's Candler Health Systems. If you are scheduled to complete a rotation with one of the various St. Joseph Candler Health System sites then your housing is being provided by St. Joseph's Candler Health Systems. The housing is located on the Intercoastal waterway near downtown, beaches and the malls. There is a swimming pool and tennis court at the complex.
Check In and Keys: You may arrange to pick up your keys for the apartment by calling Deborah Peterson, Property Manager at (912)355-3722. Keys must be picked up by 5:00 PM. Students must arrange to pick up keys prior to your arrival in Savannah. Please call Deborah Peterson no less than two weeks prior to your rotation date.
NOTE: The apartment complex office is closed on Sunday. Please make arrangements, prior to check in, with the apartment manager to pick up your keys Monday – Friday 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM or by appointment only on Saturday.
All students will be required to complete a criminal background check prior to their move-in at River Crossing. Below you will find a link to the apartment site. Follow the link to the Online Application. You will be asked first for your name, phone number and email address. Next you will be directed to to an online application form. This information will be sent to Deborah Peterson at River Crossing Apartments. This must be completed 2 weeks prior to move in.
River Crossing Apartment Application
What to Bring: Students must supply all personal items including towels, washcloths, and all toiletry items including toilet paper. Please bring sheets, and linens needed for a twin bed. The apartment has a full kitchen stocked with basic kitchen utensils, dishes, a coffee maker and a microwave. Land line phone service is not provided - students are expected to bring their personal cell phones. There is also high speed internet in the apartment.
Parking: There is one designated/marked parking space per apartment. That space should be used on a first come, first serve basis. There are additional unmarked spaces for parking. Please do not park in another designated space not belonging to the apartment you are assigned because you will be at risk of being towed.
Living Arrangements: Students are not always in private bedrooms. You might be expected to share a bedroom. The housing is assigned on a first come first serve basis and is provided to male and female students. There will be no more than four students in the housing at one time. No overnight guests or pets are permitted in the housing.
Washer and Dryer: There is no laundry facility within the apartment complex but a facility is located nearby for student use.
Other: Students are required to keep the apartment clean during residence and upon departure. The apartments are cleaned on a routine basis. Please be careful of spills on the carpet. All trash and unused food should be removed from the apartment before leaving. Please keep the thermostat set at a reasonable temperature. If the housing is left in an unsatisfactory manner a fee will be charged. We trust that you will not take anything from the apartment that belongs to the AHEC. A complete inventory of the apartment may be taken before you check-in and again after you check out.
Check Out: If you are the last student to leave the apartment, please make sure the thermostat is turned to a reasonable temperature and all lights have been turned off. DO NOT pass on a key to another student for any reason. All keys must be returned to the River Crossing management office IN PERSON (do not place keys in drop box). Grades may be held until all keys are returned.
Directions from Augusta: Start out by following the Jefferson Davis Memorial Hwy. and merging onto US 25 South/GA 121 South and travel approximately 26 miles. Turn right onto US-25/GA-121 and follow US-25 South for approximately 48 miles. Turn right onto Jones Lane Memorial Hwy and travel for approximately 13 miles. Merge onto I-16 East/GA-404 East via the ramp on the left. Travel on I-16 for approximately 49 miles. Merge onto GA-204 via Exit 165 toward 37th Street/Abercorn Street. Turn right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Turn left onto US-80 East/W. Victory Drive/GA-26 East. Turn left onto Dogwood Avenue. Travel time is approximately 3 hours and approximately 144 miles.
Directions to St. Joseph’s Candler Hospital Campus Reynolds St from Apartment: Start out going North on Dogwood Avenue toward Wood Avenue. Turn left onto toward Wood Avenue. Turn left onto Mechanics Avenue. Turn right onto US-80 West/East Victory Drive/GA-26 West. Turn left to take the Harry Truman Parkway South ramp. Turn right onto Delesseps Avenue. Turn left onto Waters Avenue. Continue on Waters to Derene, turn right onto Derene. Hospital is on the right at the intersection of Derene and Reynolds.
Directions to Memorial Health from Apartment: Start out going North on Dogwood Avenue toward Wood Avenue. Turn left onto toward Wood Avenue. Turn left onto Mechanics Avenue. Turn right onto US-80 West/East Victory Drive/GA-26 West. Turn left to take the Harry Truman Parkway South ramp. Turn right onto Delesseps Avenue. Turn left onto Waters Avenue. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes and approximately 3 ¼ miles.
