Foothills AHEC Housing
LaFayette Court Apartments
Gainesville, GA
Students completing clinical training in and around the Gainesville area are provided housing by the Foothills Area Health Education Center (AHEC). The housing is located within the city limits of Gainesville on Boulevard, and less than one-half mile from Northeast Georgia Medical Center and many of Gainesville’s medical clinics. Two apartments are available for reservations on a first come, first served basis; apartment #12 is for female students and apartment #17 is for male students.
Please note: Foothills AHEC carries insurance to cover the contents/furnishings of the apartments. Our insurance does NOT cover your personal property while it is on the premises. Please check with your personal insurance company regarding coverage of your personal property.
What to Bring: Students must supply all personal items including towels, washcloths and all toiletry items including toilet paper. There are four single beds in apartment 12, and two single and two full size beds in apartment 17. Sheets, pillows and comforters are available for the beds but students are welcome to bring their own linens. Students are responsible for washing any bedding items used before leaving the apartment. Basic kitchen utensils are provided as well as a coffee maker and a microwave. A television/VCR is provided but there is no cable in the apartment. Landline phone service is not provided – students are expected to bring their personal cell phones.
Keys: Be sure to contact Foothills AHEC AT LEAST TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START OF YOUR ROTATION to schedule picking up your key. Students are required to check out of the housing on the last day of their rotation. At the end of the rotation you are expected to return the keys to the Foothills AHEC Office. There is a replacement cost for all lost or unreturned keys.
Lockouts: Be sure you have your key when leaving the apartment. If it is necessary to contact a maintenance person to open the door, there will be a $45.00 charge. The number to call for lockouts is 770-531-2977.
Living Arrangements: Each townhome has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Each bedroom contains two beds, so students are not guaranteed private rooms. You may be expected to share a bedroom with another student of the same gender. The housing is assigned on a first come, first served basis. There will be no more than four students in the housing at one time. No overnight guests are permitted in the housing.
Gainesville Area: The housing is located within the city limits of Gainesville, just minutes from shopping and various activities.
Washer and Dryer: Coin-operated washers and dryers are located in the laundry room that can be found in the end unit of the even-numbered buildings.
Emergencies: Gainesville/Hall County is a 911 area for fire, police, and ambulances. For maintenance issues, contact either Whitney Willis at Foothills AHEC or the Norton Agency at 770-532-0022 after hours.
Other: Students are required to keep the apartment clean during residence and upon departure. Please clean up after yourself on a daily basis and be careful of spills on the carpet. The apartments will be professionally cleaned once a month. All trash should be removed from the apartment before leaving. Please keep the thermostat set on a reasonable temperature. If the housing is left in an unsatisfactory manner a fee will be charged. We trust that you will not take anything from the apartment that belongs to the Foothills AHEC. A complete inventory of the apartment will be taken before you check-in and again after you check-out.
Checkout: Remove ALL food from the refrigerator and take out your trash before leaving the apartment. If you are the last student to leave the apartment, please make sure the thermostat is turned to a reasonable temperature and all lights have been turned off. Return your key to the Foothills AHEC office. You may drop them off at our office or mail them. If you choose to return your keys by mail, please use one of the padded pre-addressed envelopes provided in the apartments and remember to place postage on the envelope before mailing. Do NOT pass on a key to another student unless instructed to do so by a Foothills AHEC staff member.

Directions to the housing
from Atlanta area:

Take Interstate 85 North from Atlanta to Interstate 985 North to Gainesville.

Follow Interstate 985 North to exit 22 for Gainesville/Jefferson and Highway
129.

At end of exit go left on Highway 129 North.

Follow 129 North for approximately 1.9 miles through eight traffic lights in the
direction of Cleveland and Dahlonega. Just past the
Gainesville Post Office turn right on Green Street (one-way street).

Go to stop sign and turn left on Boulevard Street.
· Up on the right directly
across the street from the Norton Agency is LaFayette Court. Apartment #12 is
located on the right side of the complex and Apartment #17 is located on the
left side of the complex.
Directions to the housing
from Augusta area:

Take Interstate 20 West to Thomson.
·
At Thomson take US 78 North to Athens.
·
Driving into Athens follow signs for US 78 to Highway 129 North to
Jefferson/Gainesville.

Take Highway 129 North to Gainesville/Jefferson.
·
Go through Jefferson continuing on Highway 129 North to Gainesville.
·
After crossing over Interstate 985 proceed into Gainesville on E.E. Butler
Blvd/Highway 129 North. From Interstate 985 go approximately 1.9 miles through
eight traffic lights in the direction of Cleveland and Dahlonega.

Just past the Gainesville Post Office on the right turn right on Green Street
(one-way street).

Go to stop sign and turn left on Boulevard Street.
·
Up on the right directly across the street from the Norton Agency is LaFayette
Court. Apartment #12 is located on the right side of the complex and Apartment
