Dear Student, Welcome to the Blue Ridge Area Health Education Center (AHEC) region. My goal as the Preceptor Coordinator for this area is to help you gain fulfilling educational experiences by providing community-based learning opportunities and clinical experiences within the rural and urban underserved communities of northwest Georgia. Community-based training will give you a unique opportunity to experience health care in a real world setting and interact one-on-one with your community based preceptor and patients. Current research has shown that health care professions students who have participated in these experiences have a better understanding of the complex needs of underserved communities. The Blue Ridge AHEC is a non-profit regional health education center, based in Rome, Georgia. The mission of the Blue Ridge AHEC is to increase the supply, distribution and education of health professionals in northwest Georgia. Counties served by the Blue Ridge AHEC: Bartow, Chattooga, Cherokee, Cobb, Dade, Dawson, Douglas, Floyd, Forsyth, Fannin, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Walker and Whitfield.
On behalf of the Blue Ridge AHEC staff, welcome and we hope you enjoy your time spent in northwest Georgia! We look forward to working with you. Sincerely,
Preceptor Coordinator Directions to the Blue Ridge AHEC
