General information: Students training in the Conyers & Covington area may be provided housing by Three Rivers Area Health Education Center (AHEC) on a first come, first served basis. It is important that you call Three Rivers at least two weeks in advance to make confirm your housing needs. The phone number is (706) 256-1842. We cannot guarantee fulfillment of last minute requests. The AHEC leases a small house in Covington which is located at 6108 Hannah Street, on the northeast corner of Hannah and Newton Drive. It is right next door to Newton Medical Associates and less than one mile from Internal Medicine of Newton County, Newton Medical Center, and Interstate 20 (Exit 93 - Hazelbrand Road). You must sign and return the AHEC housing agreement prior to accepting the housing. Normally you will receive this by email after your first contact with us.
Property Liability: Our insurance does not cover your personal property while it is on the premises. Please check with your personal insurance company regarding coverage of your personal belongings.
What to Bring: Students must supply all personal items including toilet paper, and toiletry items. Sheets, pillows, pillow cases, blankets, towels and wash clothes are provided. The house contains a full kitchen stocked with basic kitchen utensils, dishes, a refrigerator and a microwave. A television and high speed internet service are provided by the AHEC. There is no telephone service as students are expected to bring their cell phones.
Check-in and key arrangements: You will pick up your keys from Monisa Moore at Newton Medical Associates, 6175 Newton Drive, Covington. Her number is: (770) 787-6900 and her email address is mmoore@mynewtonmed.com. Identify yourself and you will be issued a key. Students are not allowed to pick up keys for each other as this would create a security issue.
Living arrangements: The housing arrangements are co-ed and consist of a living room, dining room, kitchen, den, two bedrooms (two beds in one and one in the other) and a bath. Each bedroom door has a lock. You may be expected to share a room with a roommate of the same gender and there may be students from schools or programs other than MCG. Everyone is expected to be considerate and share responsibilities. There are absolutely no pets or overnight guests permitted and the house is a non-smoking area.
Washer and Dryer: A washer and dryer currently is not available.
Emergencies: Please call 911 for any emergencies. For less urgent matters contact Monisa Moore at (770) 787-6900, ext. 116, or Three Rivers AHEC (706) 256-1842.
Housekeeping: Students are expected to be considerate roommates and share in keeping the house clean and presentable. A dumpster is located behind the Newton Medical Office building.
Check-out: Please remove all food from the refrigerator and take out your trash before leaving. Leave the thermostat at a reasonable setting (78◦ in warm weather and 65◦ during cold weather). If the house is left in an unsatisfactory condition, a report will be made which may result in disciplinary action. Return your key to Monisa Moore (or her designated representative). Do not pass the key to another student or leave the area without returning the key.
