Welcome to the Three Rivers AHEC region of west central Georgia. We are pleased to have been instrumental in establishing these training sites for the Medical College of Georgia and look forward to your arrival for clinical training. We will strive to make your clinical experience and visit to Columbus as fulfilling as possible.

Directions to  The Medical Center from Augusta:  Take Washington Road to I-20 West to Atlanta.  Take I-285 West to Macon/Birmingham to I-85 South.  Take I-85 South for approximately 55 miles to I-185 South.  Take the I-185 South for approximately 45 miles.  Take exit 10 to Macon/Phenix City.  Follow to the right to get on US 80/North By-Pass/JR Allen Parkway to Phenix City.  Take the 3rd Exit to Downtown and the exit runs directly into 2nd Avenue.  Continue South on 2nd Avenue and turn left onto Talbotton Road (Kelly Tire on left).  Go through two traffic lights (Veteran's Parkway and Hamilton Road).  Take the second right onto 8th Avenue.  Parking is available around the hospital.  Directions and Parking Informaiton

Check-In:  T he morning of your first rotation day (or the day prior, if possible) please report to Linda Whitley, Student Coordinator for Columbus Regional Healthcare System. She is located at 1900 10th Avenue in Columbus, suite 100, across the street from The Medical Center. Enter the building and go in the first door on the right, identify yourself, and ask to see her. Her telephone number is (706) 571-1402 (in the hospital you may dial just the last four numbers). There are some forms to complete (Emergency Contact information, etc.). You will receive two forms which must be turned in upon your departure: library clearance and medical records clearance. You will also be issued a department pager and a Security ID badge, as well as meal tickets to the hospital cafeteria.

Following your meeting with Linda Whitley you will then be expected to procee d to the Employee Education department on the third floor of the Medical Center, near the conference rooms in order to complete the mandatory Corporate Compliance Student Orientation. This orientation is completed on a computer and is self-paced. Your information has been put into the system and your preceptor is aware of the process. The employee education extension is #1980.

Report to your training location in the Pediatrics Department of the Medical Center, 5th floor, Office of the Chief of Pediatrics. Your lead preceptor is Dr. Flowers and your point of contact is the department secretary Margaret Caldwell. Her number is 571-1220.

Please be advised that you will not be able to begin your rotation until the above steps have been accomplished.

Also, during your first week please contact the Preceptor Coordinator at the Three Rivers AHEC, Hannah Lydiate for an AHEC briefing.
