Welcome to the Three Rivers AHEC
region of west central Georgia. We are pleased to have been instrumental in
establishing these training sites for the Medical College of Georgia and look
forward to your arrival for clinical training. We will strive to make your
clinical experience and visit to Columbus as fulfilling as
possible.
Directions to The Medical Center
from Augusta: Take Washington Road to I-20
West to Atlanta. Take I-285 West to Macon/Birmingham to I-85 South.
Take I-85 South for approximately 55 miles to I-185 South. Take the I-185
South for approximately 45 miles. Take exit 10 to Macon/Phenix City.
Follow to the right to get on US 80/North By-Pass/JR Allen Parkway to Phenix
City. Take the 3rd Exit to Downtown and the exit runs directly into 2nd
Avenue. Continue South on 2nd Avenue and turn left onto Talbotton Road
(Kelly Tire on left). Go through two traffic lights (Veteran's Parkway and
Hamilton Road). Take the
second right onto 8th Avenue. Parking is available around the hospital. Directions and Parking Informaiton.
Check-In:
T
he
morning of your first rotation day (or the day prior, if possible) please report
to Linda Whitley, Student Coordinator for Columbus Regional Healthcare
System. She is located at 1900 10th Avenue in Columbus, suite 100, across the
street from The Medical Center. Enter the building and go in the first door on
the right, identify yourself, and ask to see her. Her telephone number is (706)
571-1402 (in the hospital you may dial just the last four numbers). There are
some forms to complete (Emergency Contact information, etc.). You will receive
two forms which must be turned in upon your departure: library clearance and
medical records clearance. You will also be issued a department pager and a
Security ID badge, as well as meal tickets to the hospital cafeteria.
Following your meeting with Linda Whitley you will then be expected to procee
d
to the Employee Education department on the third floor of the Medical Center,
near the conference rooms in order to complete the mandatory Corporate
Compliance Student Orientation. This orientation is completed on a computer and
is self-paced. Your information has been put into the system and your preceptor
is aware of the process. The employee education extension is #1980.
Report to your training location in the Pediatrics Department of the Medical
Center, 5th floor, Office of the Chief of Pediatrics. Your lead preceptor is Dr.
Flowers and your point of contact is the department
secretary Margaret Caldwell. Her number is 571-1220.
Please be advised that you will not be able to begin your rotation until the
above steps have been accomplished.
Also, during your first week please contact the
Preceptor Coordinator at the Three Rivers AHEC, Hannah Lydiate for an AHEC
briefing.

Out:
Your checkout will be with Linda Whitley at
1900 10th Avenue. You will be expected to return the security badge, beeper and
housing keys (if applicable). You will also need to submit the completed
checkout sheet showing that you have cleared medical records and the library in
the hospital.
Completion of these requirements will allow the release of your grades.
