Rotation Information:  Habersham OB/GYN Associates provides comprehensive health care services for women in Habersham and surrounding counties in northeast Georgia. Habersham county is approximately one hour north of Athens and one hour northeast of Atlanta. The practice is located in the city of Demorest, and is within walking distance of Habersham County Medical Center, a 53-bed community hospital with which the practice is affiliated.

The practice has two physicians. Dr. Hatchett is an MCG graduate. Dr. Beaty is a Mercer Graduate. Multiple services are performed in the practice including colposcopy, ultrasound, LEEP, cryosurgery, breast biopsies, bone density testing, and biofeedback therapy for incontinence.

Third year medical students accompany the doctors on hospital rounds and office visits, dividing time between the three doctors. You will work with the certified nurse midwives as well, learning how they assist in a busy practice. You will be asked to do several written write-ups on inpatients and office patients.

As the rotation progresses, you will have the opportunity to see patients alone. You will observe several of the common outpatient and inpatient procedures and possibly assist with these. You can practice blood draws in our office laboratory. You will become familiar with lab test interpretation.

You will take call four or five nights a week as done on campus. Please make sure your contact information is left with the preceptor on call for that evening. Computer and internet access is available for you in the on call room at the hospital and at the office.

In short, you will become familiar with all the duties of the OB/GYN in private practice. Lastly, you get to see the other side of private practice, such as management of a business, personnel, and finances. Any questions you may have prior to the rotation? Feel free to contact Dr. Hatchett at (706) 754-5511

There will be a hospital orientation scheduled at 9:00 AM on the first complete day of your rotation before you can see patients on rounds or attend surgeries. Please see Wanda Perry or Jean Heintz for this orientation and tour. An OR nurse will check off your scrub technique skills.

Ask Dr. Hatchett where and when to meet with him after your orientation.
