Upon arrival to Valdosta, please report to the South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) Security Office located in the Basement Level to pick up your welcome packet.  In the packet you will find your room assignment, house rules, directions to the apartment, keys to the apartment and bedroom door, OVID and CINAHL passwords, wireless internet login and password, AHEC Annual Report, security information, and information on local interests. 

Directions to SGMC:  Traveling South on I-75, take Exit #22-North Valdosta Road/Hwy. 41.  Turn right off the ramp and travel south on North Valdosta Road.  You will pass Smith Northview Hospital on your left.  When you reach the Patterson and Ashley split, stay on Ashley Street, which will veer to the left.  Continue south to Cowart Avenue (across the street from the CVS Pharmacy).  At the traffic light, turn right onto Cowart Avenue into the SGMC Outpatient/Youth Care Parking Lot.  If you arrive after 9:00 p.m., you will be required to check in at the security desk located in the Outpatient/Youth Care Waiting Room.  Proceed past the security desk to the lobby elevators that are located at the end of the hallway behind the security desk.  Once you reach the end of the hallway, the elevators will be on your left.  Do not use the Staff Elevators.  Go to the Basement (B) Level.  Turn left out of the elevator and take the first left. Take the next immediate right to the Security Office on your right.  Ask for the packet with your name on it and present a picture ID.  There is someone posted in the Security Office 24 hours and they will ask you to sign for the keys.

The Plantation House Apartments are located at 123 E. Park Avenue #D, which is two blocks south of SGMC.  From the Outpatient/Youth Care Parking Lot, turn onto Slater Street and travel south two blocks to Park Avenue.  Cross over Park Avenue and turn right into the parking lot on the back side of the building.  If all “D” parking spaces are full, park in the black gravel.  Entering from the back entrance, Apartment D is upstairs on your right.  This is a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom coed apartment with same gender sharing a room with two twin beds.  The apartment is equipped with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, wireless internet, and one basic cable television in the common area.  There is one desk and chair, one small chest, and two twin beds in each room.  Each bed has one pillow and one thermal blanket.  You will need to bring toiletries, laundry detergent, bed linens, and towels & washcloths plus other items that will make your stay pleasant and comfortable.  Please be sure to check your room assignment prior to unlocking the bedroom door.  The telephone number to the apartment is 229-219-7668.  To allow time to have the rooms cleaned between student rotations, please be sure to arrive no sooner than 6:00 p.m. the evening before your rotation begins. 

At the end of your rotation, please return your keys and hospital badge to the Security Office of SGMC.   

Directions to the AHEC Office:  Turn left out of The Plantation House Apartments parking lot.  Turn left onto Park Avenue.  At the traffic light, turn right onto Patterson Street.  Travel two blocks north to the temporary VSU parking lot on the right.  Pound Hall houses the Langdale College of Business.   Entering from the front of the building, our office is located at the end of the hallway on the right in rooms 223 and 231.
