General Information

Our fully accrediated Pain Fellowship Program at the Medical College of Georgia accepts three fellows per year. Two anesthesiology residents also rotate on the Pain Service each month.

The Pain Medicine Fellowship provides interdisciplinary training in the management of acute, chronic, and cancer-related pain. Using a problem-oriented approach, fellows obtain pertinent histories, develop relevant physical examination skills, and order appropriate diagnostic tests in a system-based practice approach. Our fellows also develop superior competence in all aspects of fluoroscopically guided neural blockade, state-of-the art implantable devices, and radio-frequency techniques.

MCG is a Level I Trauma Center. Acute pain medicine training focuses primarily on hospitalized children and adults with acute-on-chronic, postoperative, or trauma-related pain. Fellows will gain experience with epidural narcotics; local anesthetics; caudal, interscalene, spinal, and femoral nerve blocks; and auxiliary analgesia regimens.

Clinical training in pain-related fields is available in neurology, physiatry, EMG, behavioral psychology, rescue skills, complementary techniques and palliative care. Our curriculum allows for electives from different primary specialties to meet the training needs of our fellows.
