Since the graduation of its first class in 1973, the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry - the State‘s sole dental school and one of only 56 in the entire United States - has demonstrated an exemplary record of protecting the oral health of our State’s residents.
As an integral part of the MCG academic medical center, the School of Dentistry is committed to academic excellence, providing optimal oral health care, and actively engaging in research, scholarship and creative endeavors to meet the needs of the diverse populations of Georgia, the region and the nation.
Over 1,500 students have graduated in the last 30 years, and an impressive 85 percent have remained in Georgia to establish practices. Approximately one quarter of Georgia’s licensed dentists are graduates of the School. Professional residency programs in the School enroll an additional 30-35 students annually.
The School has 70 full-time instructional faculty and over 200 volunteer
faculty, and generates approximately $2 million annually in federal, state
and private research funding.
During the most recent reporting cycle, the dental school had the highest
graduation rate - 96.4 percent - of all five of MCG’s professional schools.
Of the approximately 60 students who annually enter the program, the School
of Dentistry has a 98.2 percent retention rate, again the highest of all
MCG’s schools.

"When alumni, and friends contribute to their university, they send a
positive message. I plan to become a donor after graduation because I know
firsthand of MCG's outstanding contributions to health care."
