Definitions Pertaining to Dental Services

Field  Description
Endodontics The treatment of infected teeth by cleaning, disinfecting and filling root canals.
Orthodontics Alignment of teeth and treatment of problems related to growth and development of the face and jaws.
Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology The clinical diagnosis and non-surgical management of diseases of the oral cavity, including the microscopic examination of tissues removed from the oral and maxillofacial regions.
Pediatric Dentistry The prevention and treatment of dental diseases in children and adolescents.
Periodontics The prevention and treatment of diseases of the gingival (gums) and the bone surrounding and supporting the teeth.
Oral Rehabilitation The restoration of faulty, missing or diseased parts of natural teeth with appropriate filling material, crowns, fixed partial dentures or removable dentures.
TMJ Pain relief and treatment of disorders associated with temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
Private Care On a limited basis, faculty treat patients who may be referred from other dentists or physicians. They provide treatment in all phases of dentistry. Fees are similar to those charged in private dental offices.
