Bachelor of Science Traditional 2+2 Transfer Program
The
Traditional Bachelor of Science Degree 2+2 Program requires the applicant to
attend an accredited college or university of their choice for the first two
years to complete the required
core
curriculum courses. Applications can be made during the sophomore year for transfer into the
Medical College of Georgia. Accepted students will be admitted for the Fall Semester to begin their
junior year. Early
application is encouraged, however, applications will be accepted until the
class is filled. MCG courses include classroom, laboratory,
clinical, and web-based learning.
The MCG program offers training in multiple
clinical sites that offer unique opportunities for training professionals. Four major hospital complexes are within walking distance of the
department. Clinical sites include a regional trauma
center, a regional burn center, two level 3 neonatal intensive care units,
a diagnostic sleep center, a pulmonary rehabilitation center, and
pulmonary function laboratories. Students
rotate through all intensive care areas to include open heart recovery, shock
trauma, medical intensive care, neonatal intensive care, and pediatric intensive
care. Students also rotate through
the Emergency Departments and Operating Rooms. Other areas of clinical training include home care, skilled nursing
facilities, and community-based programs such as a summer asthma camp.
On successful completion of this program, the
student will be eligible to sit for the national credential examinations
administered by the
National
Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). The program places a strong
emphasis on professional as well as academic growth. The program has a low student to teacher ratio and first time pass
rates for MCG graduates are well above the national average on national entry
level and advanced practice exams.
