Research Description:
My current research interests have the collective goal focused on the improvement of walking following neurologic injury or disease. My specific interests include:

  • Brain activation patterns during mental imagery of walking.
  • The use of mental practice in persons following stroke to improve walking.
  • The objective measurement of gait analysis with the use of a gait analysis scale called the Gait Abilities Scale.
  • The effectiveness of physical therapy interventions for improving gait. and functional mobility with a focus on persons following stroke and persons with Parkinson's Disease.

Current Investigations:

  • Cortical and subcortical activation during mental imagery of locomotion in persons following stroke: an fMRI investigation.
  • Chatto, CA. Joseph, R. Willson, J. The effect of an individually prescribed exercise program on the quality of life and functional mobility in persons with early and midstage Parkinson's disease.
